Genetic Monitoring Laboratory

Use of genetically defined laboratory animals is important in any biomedical research. Outcome of the animal research greatly depends on use of authentic source of the laboratory animals. The purpose of genetic monitoring is to both confirm the presence or absence of specific gene(s) and ensure the validity of the genetic background.  Regular genetic monitoring of rodent colonies is crucial to detect unintended mating or husbandry errors.  Currently, SAF is housing several strains of transgenic/knockout mice and genetic monitoring of certain strains are being routinely carried out.
